RESOLUTION 67-61-R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY URGING THE
LEGISLATURE TO INCREASE DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE ENFORCEMENT, PREVENTION AND
TREATMENT.
WHEREAS, alcohol and drug abuse are causing the biggest social
problems In the United Stales and especially in Alaska, costing 660 billion
per year in terms of loot productivity sad other cost, and
WHEREAS, the adults and youth of the Kodiak Island Borough have
decided It is time to •say no* to drugs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembl7
that Governor Steve Cowper and the Alaska Legislature aro urged to adopt
legislation which will accomplish the following:
1. Increase penalties and minimum sentences for drug sad alcohol
offenses, particularly drug dealers.
2. Increase fuadlag for lam saforcemeat, particularly at the state
trooper division and put a higher priority on alcohol and drug
offenses.
S. Increase funding for public education and prevention programa,
particularly in the school systems.
6. Increase fundlag for rehabilitation programs, particularly
multi -agency coordinated programa for adolescents.
6. Review State Statutes to identify and correct Inconsistent statute*
dealing with Illegal drug possession. and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED the Alaska State Legislature and the U. S.
Congress are urged to investigate the effects of the drug and alcohol
advertising on our youth and enact legislation to eliminate or control
advertising which Is found to be datermental.
