A RESOLUTION OF THE KODI AK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY URGI NCa�QHE
LEGISLATURE TO MAKE THE POSSESSION AND USE OF MARIJUANA ILLEGAL.
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska allows legal private porr)9-3 -,o and use
of marijuana, and ��JJ
WHEREAS, Alaska's present statutes regarding Posen and use of
marijuana are in conflict with Federal law, and
WHEREAS, recent studies have revealed increasiarev dance of
marijuana's destructive effects on the brain, immune sy See

reproductive system of human beings, and �/-_
WHEREAS, recent studies show marijuan a, ahe single and best
predictor of future illegal drug use, and
WHEREAS, the estimated direct cost of dru abuse in business in the
United State is $60 billion per year, measured in lost productivity, increased
absenteeism, rising medical costs, more workpla a accidents, and stealing by
employees to support their addictions, an

WHEREAS, the Kodiak Islstl-'i ough and City of Kodiak Substance Abus JI

WHEREAS, it is t tly inconsistent to urge young people to "say no"�
to drugs at the same ti a it i legal to possess and use drugs, and
WHEREAS, th �Is a matter of concern.for the general health, welfarel

NOW, 4HIFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island 9orough Assemblythat the Legisa d the Governor of the Slate of Alaska are urged to
reenact the statutes which make the possession and use of marijuana a criminal
act.
