RESOLUTION NO. 37-01-R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY PROPOSING THE
CREATION IN THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE OF A FISHERIES DEVELOPMENT POLICY COORDINATOR
POSITION.
WHEREAS, Kodiak Island is well known throughout the world for its
fishing industry; and
WHEREAS, the fishing industry is currently diversifying because of
biological and economic 'conditions; and
WHEREAS, the creation of the position received the unanimous support
of the Southwest Municipal Conference, the Southeast Municipal Conference, and
itother coastal communities at the recent coalition meeting held in Juneau; and
ii WHEREAS. Kodiak and other coastal communities need representation in
,
the decision-making process of developing Alaskan fisheries; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Alaska needs to take a strong
leadership position on fishery issues which can only be accomplished by a
coordinated approach through one key position for fishery policy in the
II Governor's office.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
that the creation in the Governor's Office of a position for a fisheries
development policy coordinator is hereby respectfully proposed to Governor
Cowper.
