RESOLUTION NO. 89-60-R
A RESOLUTION URGING THE ALASKA CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION
TO PROTECT THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES
WHEREAS, the American Flag is the symbol of the United States of
America; and
WHEREAS, the American Flag should be given the highest respect
by loyal Americans; and
WHEREAS, American men and women have dies in the act of
preservation of the American Flag and the freedoms It represents; and
WHEREAS, the rights of Americans are contained in the
Constitution; and
WHEREAS, the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled the
desecration of the American Flag to be an act of free speech under the
Constitution; and
WHEREAS, an amendment of the Constitution is necessary to give
the American Flag the appropriate dignity and respect it deserves;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly that the Alaska Congressional Delegation is urged to institute and
support legislation necessary to give the American Flag a unique status in the
Amendments to the Constitution; one that places it outside acts of desecration
while not invading the rights and privileges it proudly represents.
