1988-61 Urging a Prohibition on Roe StrippingBy: Mayor Selby Introduced: 9/15/88 Adopted: 9/15/88 KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 88-61-R A RESOLUTION URGING A PROHIBITION ON ROE STRIPPING WHEREAS, roe stripping operations are increasing in Alaska's bottomfish industry, resulting in the dumping of more than 1.5 million pounds of Pollock in 1987; and WHEREAS, this is a terrible waste of a public fisheries resource; and WHEREAS, the dumping of these fish carcasses has damaged the environment of the ocean bottom to the point that other commercial species have been killed; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly urges the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council to adopt regulations prohibiting the practice of roe stripping.
