RESOLUTION N0. 66-99-R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY URGING THE STATE
OF ALASKA TO PROVIDE'FORWARD FUNDING FOR EDUCATION.
WHEREAS, fluctuating oil revenues have left state agencies and local
governments in an uncertain funding position; and
WHEREAS, school districts and local governments in the state have
shared in that frustration, and
i� WHEREAS, contracts for teachers are approved prior to the end of the
legislative session; and
WHEREAS, local governments aro required by State Statute to establish i
their funding level for education prior to the and of the legislative session;
and
WHEREAS, program planning needs to occur as soon as possibler and i
WHEREAS, the legislature hes previously provided forward funding end
the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly and School District Board of Education have
jappreciated that effort, and
WHEREAS, the present legislation forces municipal governments to
decide on local appropriations for educational funding prior to the Stitt
Setting the foundation support.
NOW. THEREFORE. BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly urge* the Alaska Legislature and governor Cowper to adopt legislation
which provide* for forward funding of education.
