RESOLUTION NO. 85-37-R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING HOUSE
LL NO. 257 CONCERNING LOCAL EFFORT IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL FOUNDATION PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, House Bill No. 257 has been introduced to the Alaska
slature and proposes to provide additional state aid to a school district
an amount equal to 50 percent of the local funding in excess of a 3 mill levy
real and personal property, and
WHEREAS, this additional state aid would be a major source of tax
lief to localities which are currently supporting their education system
th substantial local funds, and
WHEREAS, this type of funding would tend to equalize the state funding
nequities which might exist under the current and future foundation formula,
WHEREAS, the only weakness of this bill as presented would be the
ible encouragement to spend funds unnecessarily in order to obtain more
s, and
WHEREAS, this weakness can be corrected by amending the bill to have
additional funds flow back to the funding municipality instead of directly
the school district.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
House Bill 257 be amended as indicated and passed into law, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to the
