RESOLUTION NO. 85-25-R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING THE
J. S. CUSTOM SERVICE RULE ALLOWING UNLIMITED ALASKAN PORT CALLS BY FOREIGN
3ASSENGER SHIPS.
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough has repeatedly supported the
laxation of regulations limiting port calls and length of stay in the U. S.
by foreign passenger ships, and
WHEREAS, the proposed rule published in the Federal Register Volume 5(
6 on Wednesday, January 9, 1985 would relax the regulations and allow
e foreign passenger ships to call on more Alaska ports and spend substan-
ally more time in those ports, and
WHEREAS, the current rule which requires these ships to visit at
east as many foreign ports as Alaska ports only works against the Alaskan
visitor industry, and
WHEREAS, increased passenger ship port calls and longer stays would
de a substantial increase to the Alaska and Kodiak visitor industry.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembl]
pports and urges adoption of the proposed rule by the U. S. Custom Service.
