1985-19 Supporting Continued Funding of the Alaska Legal Services Corporation.KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 85-19-R A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING CONT ING OF THE ALASKA LEGAL SERVICES CORPORATION. WHEREAS, the Alaska Legal Services Corporation has been serving all of ak Island for more than fifteen (15) years and the low income people of the rea have come to depend on the legal services provided, and WHEREAS, most of the individuals who live in the villages on Kodiak land are financially eligible for Alaska Legal Services Corporation's resentation, and WHEREAS, over the past fifteen (15) years Alaska Legal Services Co on has opened over three thousand (3,000) files for individuals on Kodiak sland, the lower Alaska Peninsula, the Aleutian Chain and the Pribilof Islands d presently has more than three hundred (300) files still open, and WHEREAS, those people who presently are or were represented by Alaska gal Services Corporation need to have continued access to their files and attorneys, and WHEREAS, Alaska Legal Services Corporation has demonstrated a willing -'I Ness to travel to remote villages to assist those who cannot travel to larger communities, and WHEREAS, the Reagan Administration has proposed to completely defund the Legal Services Corporation, and WHEREAS, Alaska Legal Services Corporation receives approximately one- half of its funding from the Federal funds provided to the Legal Services Corp- hration and more than One Million Dollars from the Alaska Legislature. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly that the United States Congress and the Alaska Legislature is urged to appropri ht least the current level of funding for the Legal Services organization and fissure the current level of services to the people in the Kodiak Island Borough. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be sent to: President Ronald Reagan Senator Ted Stevens Senator Frank H. Murkowski Congressman Donald E.
