A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING THE
NUATION OF THE COMMERCIAL FISHERIES ENTRY COMMISSION FIELD OFFICE IN KODI
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Field Office of the Commercial Fisheries Entry
ssion was opened in January 1983, and
WHEREAS, a growing number of fishermen from Kodiak, Bristol Bay, Wes
aska and other cities are beginning to rely on the availability of an office
n Kodiak for permit renewals, licenses, assistance in permanent permit trans
permit transfers and information concerning commercial fishing, and
WHEREAS, 1793 permits and 1018 vessel licenses were issued by this
ce in 1983 as well as 2,272 permits and 965 vessel licenses issued in
984, and
WHEREAS, the previous system of permit and license activity required
reliable mail traffic to and from Juneau and the use of expensive consultants
was entirely unsatisfactory, and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska is proposing to close the Kodiak Field
ce, and
WHEREAS, the fishing fleet needs to have a Commercial Fisheries Entry
ssion office in Kodiak to support fishing activities, and
WHEREAS, an expansion of services available at the Kodiak Field Office
s needed to include mail -in applications and mail -out of permits and better
ring of data with other agencies, and
WHEREAS, increased support for the fishing industry is critical to the
rvival of the industry at this time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly
that the State of Alaska is requested to continue the Commercial Fisheries Entry
Commission Field Office in Kodiak and seek to expand the services provided by
this office to commerical fishermen.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be sent to the following:
