Page about the requircd number of parking sp3cas on his lct. Mr. Page.stated that
there is room enough for five parking spaces Mr. Burnham ctosed the publlc hearing
and reconveneC the rcgular meetlng. Mr. Gariss stated thctafter checklng the files
no use had ever been granted to Mr. Page b:fore. Mrs. Gellis felt that this was a
home occupation and that the attorney seemed to think this vras a permissable use.

was present to explain to the Commission the problem that arose ln requesting for
this variance. He state'j that when the engineers designed this building they
dld not take into consicleration the setbacli requirements on lots and thit there
is a power high voltage tirie connecting.with CoastGuar.C 3ase, whlctr would take
consideiable amount of money'and timi to.put under. ground if the bullding
had to be moved. He furthe'r noted that KEA,had a public hearing on this variance
and the.re was a petition at that hearing and they have since talked wlth most of
the people and they have consented. Mr. Ki ng stated .that he did n'ot receive a
notice and, that t he obj ected to this variance . Mr. Johnson stated Urat this new
plant wi Il make less noise than the p resent plan. Mr. Burnham closed the public

Wasson requested that Lots I 6 2, Block 55 , East Addition be r::cned to R-2 to
pcrmlt the use of a clinic on thase lots, across from the l'::spit:1, he further stated
at the last meeting they rrrere i:rformed that this would be sp:t ::ning anC so thercfcre
the Commission aftei' solne discussion decided to rezone I:c v.,l-.:!e block of lots 1-11.

Mrs. Markowski stated that he ojbects to the rezoning, in tl':at she doesrnt want the
present vacant lot to have dupiexe5 built on them. Dr. Falcon explained the reason
to Mrs. Markowski for putting the clinic in this area. Mrs. Lechner stated tfrat ttrey

Mrs.lls moved to use
He furtirer stated that after attending a Chamber of Commerce meeting ln which it
was mainly concerned about advertisement around l(odiak, he declded to publish
a circular with adyertisements to tiand out to the public, He further 3tlted that
he has pfeviously looked for other propGrty to put hlg business o1..but none was
availa5te. He was assured when he bought his present property by Sam Best, a former
Borough Employec, that he would operate a home occupatlon in an R-l zonc. The
only complaint he has recelved was from his neighbor, Ben Ardlngcr. Mr. Page
went on to say that his printing press will not make any more noisc than a
mi:neograph or copylng machine. Thls printing press ls mercly an Qxten3lon of
hls present business of whlch he has been operatlng for flve years and 0rat hls
lifestyle has never given anybody reason to complaln. Mr. Pagc ls now asklng that
the Commission rcscind the Bullding lnspectorrs ordcr and allow hlm to continue
his business. Mr. Jim Branson voiced his objection as to have a prlnting press
ln an R-I zone. He questioned the element of conrpetition and lf thc C,orrunlssion
was givlng Mr. Page an edge and lettlng him operate his business ln a residentlal
area. Mr. Buntin4g stated that he lived two houses down from Jtlr. Page and had
no objectlon to hlsbusinesc. Mr. Stanchfleld stated that he had talked wlth the
printers at the Mlrror and they notcd that photography was.,19t the same as prlnting,
in that you use entdrety different type of equiprrcnt for ibo printlng tfran photogra;hy.
He atso noted that Mr. Page does have a parklng problem. Mrs Ardihger noted
that they do not try to harass Mr. Page, but that when they had to move from the "..'iln-
tourn area and they were no longer not allowed to operate'thei:' busliress from the!:'
hcr::e, so they had to buy an area downtown ln order to maintain thelr business
prwtousty operated out of thelr home and Mr. Page should be bbligated to do thE
sa!:1e thing. Mrs. Saupe requested that her husbandts letter be read lnto the min':tes
on tlris additionat use and that she personally obiccted to his cperating a busines:
out of an R-l tone. Mr. Burnham read Mr. Saupers letter of obtection into the
minutes. Mr. 'Ben Ardlnger stated that he feels that this area should rernain
residcntial and Mr. Page should operate hls buslness ln the downtown area. Nancy
