AZA.K' Kodak Island Borough AGENDA STATEMENT Meeting of: February 9, 1993 1'!ea/hW/- /1,n_ 93 d3 ITEM TITLE: Contract Award - Borough Building Upgrade SUMMARY STATEMENT Bids were received and opened January 25, 1993 for an upgrade of the Borough building. The work will consist of dividing the Daycare Assistance area with a wall to provide more space for storage of records, install a wall in the reception area, install hall carpeting on both levels and remove existing doorway into the city's hallway and replace it beyond entrances to the second floor restrooms. Three bids were received. Custom Painting and Drywall, Inc., of Kodiak, is the apparent low bidder. Recommend award to Custom Painting and Drywall, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $ 7812.00. FISCAL NOTES Account No. 220-232-450-430 (] N/A Expenditure Amount Required $ 7,812.00 Budgeted $ 8,000 APPROVAL FOR AGENDA: fr RECOMMENDED ACTION: Kodiak Island Borough SCOPE OF WORK - KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH BUILDING This work incorporates several areas and departments in the Borough Building which also impacts the City of Kodiak and the Kodiak Island Borough School District. The amount of work involved and the reason for it is as follows: Room 231 - Daycare and Archives; Daycare has requested a reduction in their square footage area. The plan is to divide the room into half with Daycare moving to the front portion, a wall being installed to separate areas, electrical outlets installed, new light switching installed, and a doorway cut from the current Archives area to the new room for use as extra Borough storage. Reception Area; Plan is to install new wall where existing reception counter is located. Counter will be reused in the Engineering/Facilities Department. The wall will consist of installing a new door and providing outlets for the soft drink machine and the candy machine currently located in the copy room to be moved to the outside of the new wall and located centrally in the hallway. Three electrical light switches are to be relocated to outside wall. 1st and 2nd Floor Hallways; Plan is to install new carpet in the hallways of each floor. This is to include preparing the floors for a glue -down installation, installing transition strips to connect the new carpet to the old, and floating the floors as needed to create a level surface. We have had several instances of people slipping on the floors due to the high gloss waxed finish of the existing floors. This will remove some liability from the Borough. We are not installing carpet in the hallway near the Assembly Chambers, plan is to relocate several walk -off mats in this area. City of Kodiak Entrance; Plan is to remove the existing doorway and relite from the hallway into the city's area. Due to the means of construction of this doorway, the frame cannot be reused. A new frame to match the existing metal frame will be made of wood and the existing door, glass relites, and hardware will be reused to save on costs.
