CALL TO ORDER
VICE CHAIR SALTONSTALL called to order the January 24, 2012 Parks & Recreation regular
meeting at 7:05 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Committee members present were Pam Foreman, Jeff Huntley, Patrick Saltonstall, Sandra
West, and Michael Marion. Excused were Hans Tschersich, Andy Schroder, and Rick
Lindholm. Ex- officio members absent were Jack Ransom, Ian Fulp, Chris Lynch, Peggy
Rauwolf, Norm Wooten (Alt.), Casey Janz, and Brent Watkins (Alt.).
A quorum was established.
Community Development Department staff present was Bud Cassidy and Sheila Smith.
COMMITTEE MEMBER WEST MOVED to excuse Rick Lindholm, Hans Tschersich, and Andy
Schroeder.
VOICE VOTE ON MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
COMMITTEE MEMBER WEST stated she would like to add "Pathway Lights: as Old
Business -E.
COMMITTEE MEMBER HUNTLEY MOVED to approve the agenda as amended.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS
COMMITTEE MEMBER HUNTLEY MOVED to approve the December 13, 2011 minutes.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS AND APPEARANCE REQUESTS
OLD BUSINESS
A) Trails Plan
B) Trails Map
C) Review of Appendix
Cassidy gave a brief report on A, B, & C together stating the changes have been made to the
map but for the members to look at it and write on the map anything else that needs to be
added. Cassidy also stated appendix E is the trails survey that needs to be put in.

D) Winter Rules of the Lake
Cassidy stated this is on the agenda for the committee to review since they haven't been
reviewed in a while.
During discussion, there was consensus to have staff draft a letter to send with the rules to
folks around Island and Dark Lakes inviting them to the February 14th P &R meeting to
review and discuss any problems that may still be occurring or changes that need to be
made to the rules.
E) Pathway Lights
COMMITTEE MEMBER WEST said KEA have LED lights that they will put up high on a pole,
and she's still trying to find out the cost of electricity per light per month.
During discussion, COMMITTEE MEMBER FOREMAN suggested a meeting between the
borough, Lions Club, and KEA.
COMMITTEE MEMBER WEST will get information on lights and maintenance and let
everyone know.
NEW BUSINESS
A) Elections
VICE CHAIR SALTONSTALL stated he would feel more comfortable postponing elections
until there are more members present.
Committee consensus to postpone elections.
COMMITTEE MEMBER HUNTLEY MOVED to postpone elections to the February 28th P &R
meeting.

COMMUNICATIONS
A) February 15, 2012 Planning & Zoning Agenda
Cassidy gave a brief report on the public hearing cases.
The committee directed Cassidy to write a memo to P &Z expressing concern and want the
commission to consider Safe Routes to School.
COMMITTEE MEMBER FOREMAN MOVED that we send a memo to P &Z discussing our
concerns along the Sharatin area of development for Pedestrian Right of Way.
VOICE VOTE ON MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
COMMITTEE MEMBER FOREMAN MOVED to accept communications.
VOICE VOTE ON MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
REPORTS
The next P &R meetings are the February 14, 2012 Parks & Recreation Committee meeting
and February 28, 2012 Parks & Recreation Committee meeting both at 7 p.m. in the KIB
School District Conference Room.
