04/20/2011 Regular Meeting KODIAK WORKFORCE REGIONAL ADVISORY COUNCIL Regular Meeting April 20, 2011 A regular meeting of the Kodiak Workforce Regional Advisory Council was held on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at Kodiak College. The meeting was called to order at 12:18 p.m. Council members present were Chairperson Jerome Selby, Maureen Butler, Brian Himelbloom, Jacqueline Madsen, Peggy Rauwolf, Lorraine Stewart, and CDR Patrick McElligatt. Ex Officio member present was Kodiak Island Borough School District Superintendent Stewart McDonald. Staff present was Kodiak Island Borough School District Administrative Assistant Bonnie Baker. Citizens at large included Jeff Stephan. Council members absent were Marjorie DeGreef, Aimee Kniaziowski, Trevor Brown, Tuck Bonney, Robert Banks, and Sonny Vinberg. APPROVAL OF AGENDA STEWART moved to add item 6A, Workforce Needs Survey Update, and item 7B, Kodiak Vocational Addition to the agenda and approve the agenda as amended. Workforce Needs Survey Update MCDONALD reported approximately one hundred responses to the Workforce Needs Survey had been received from local employers. The Council directed the Survey Subcommittee to develop categories from the raw data and the result would be reviewed at the May meeting by the full Council. NEW BUSINESS A. Council Appointment Recommendations to the Borough Assembly L Human Resources Services BUTLER moved to appoint Brenda Zuwacki to the Human Resources Services seat. It was noted that Ms. DeGrecf would be moving from the island; therefore, vacating the Health and Sports Fitness seat. Ms. Zawacki applied for the Human Resources Services seat in order to represent Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center on the council. Kodiak Vocational Addition Kodiak College Director Barbara Bolson requested a letter from the Council in support of a vocational addition to Kodiak College. Chair Selby would work with Ms. Bolson to draft the letter. CITIZENS' COMMENTS None COUNCIL MEMBERS' COMMENTS BUTLER reported on Junior Achievement activities. STEWART reported on welding certification recently achieved by Kodiak High School and Kodiak College students as well as adults. RAUWOLF expressed her appreciation for the survey information. MCDONALD shared information regarding the possibility of future student projects supported by collaborative community partnerships to develop skills and feed the local workforce. NEXT MEETING The next meeting was scheduled to be held on Monday, May 23, 2011, at 12 p.m. at the Legislative Information Office.
