10 A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
11 AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION TO THE ALASKA ENERGY
12 AUTHORITY RENEWABLE ENERGY FUND GRANT RECOMMENDATION PROGRAM,
13 ROUND V, FOR THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF A GROUND SOURCE HEAT
14 PUMP SYSTEM IN THE KODIAK HIGH SCHOOL

16 WHEREAS, on October 6 2009 voter's authorized the Kodiak Island Borough to issue
17 general obligation bonds to finance the renovation and expansion of the Kodiak High
18 School, and
19
20 WHEREAS, staff is moving forward with the planning and design of the Kodiak High
21 School renovation and expansion project, and
22
23 WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the community to explore the possibility of
24 employing alternative energy use in the high school as part of the renovation and expansion
25 project in order to reduce the cost of energy which will provide long -term savings to tax
26 payers and reduce the harmful effects of energy use on the environment, and
27
28 WHEREAS, the Alaska Energy Authority has announced the Renewable Energy Fund
29 Grant Recommendation Program Round V which recommends grants for renewable energy
30 projects to be funded by the Alaska State Legislature, and
31
32 WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough is an eligible applicant and is in compliance with
33 applicable federal, state, and local laws including existing credit and federal tax obligations,
34 and
35
36 WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough will provide matching funds toward this project in
37 the form of in -kind contribution within the project budget.

39 NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
40 BOROUGH that an application be submitted to the Alaska Energy Authority Renewable
41 Energy Fund for design and construction of a ground source heat pump system in the
42 Kodiak High School.

43 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Borough Manager is authorized to negotiate and
44 execute any and all documents required for granting and managing funds on behalf of the
45 Kodiak Island Borough.
