May 10, 2011 Regular Meeting 7 p.m. in the KIB School District Conference Room
CALL TO ORDER
VICE CHAIR SALTONSTALL called to order the May 10, 2011 Parks & Recreation regular meeting at
7 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Requested to be excused was Mike Sirofchuck due to being in China, Hans Tschersich due to being
out of town (wife's medical), and Andy Schroeder due to being out of town.
Committee members present were Pam Foreman, Jeff Huntley, Patrick Saltonstall, Rick Lindholm,
Sandra West, and Willy Bethea. Excused were Mike Sirofchuck, Hans Tschersich, and Andy
Schroeder. Ex- officio member present was Casey Janz (arrived 7:05 p.m.). Absent ex- officio
members were Kevin Murphy, Ian Pulp, Chris Lynch, Peggy Rauwolf, Norm Wooten (S.D. Alt.).
Community Development Dept. staff present was Bud Cassidy and Sheila Smith.
A quorum was established.
COMMITTEE MEMBER BETHEA MOVED to excuse Mike Sirofchuck, Hans Tschersich, and Andy
Schroeder.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
COMMITTEE MEMBER HUNTLEY MOVED to approve the May 10, 2011 agenda.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS
COMMITTEE MEMBER FOREMAN MOVED to approve the April 26, 2011 Parks & Recreation
Minutes.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS AND APPEARANCE REQUESTS
There were no audience comments and appearance requests.
OLD BUSINESS
A) Trails Plan
Discussion of possible public meeting dates and the draft plan.
COMMITTEE MEMBER HUNTLEY MOVED to have a public meeting on the first of June.
COMMITTEE MEMBER HUNTLEY MOVED to amend the motion to include a 90 day review period.

NEW BUSINESS

COMMUNICATIONS
A) Temporary Construction Permit
COMMITTEE MEMBER WEST gave an update on the proposed bike path and construction.
REPORTS
The next 2 Parks & Recreation regular meetings will be held on May 24, 2011 & June 14, 2011 at
7:00 p.m. in the KIB School District Conference Room
Discussion of holding one meeting a month for the summer. It was the consensus to make that
decision after the public meeting.
Patrick Saltonstall said he won't be here for the May 24th meeting or the June 1st public meeting;
he's doing the Karluk River Survey.
Jeff Huntley said he won't be here for the June 14th meeting.
AUDIENCE COMMENTS
There were no audience comments.
COMMITTEE MEMBER'S COMMENTS
Willy Bethea said he really likes to see the audience show up. Continue to show up and tell your
buddies to come June 1st.
Pam Foreman said she has a list with about 30 places to put flyers for the public meeting, and there
should be copies of the draft plan at various places in town. This may be the time that Sirofchuck or
Saltonstall go on Hotline to talk about why this meeting is important.
Casey Janz said she would do the Hotline.
Sandra West offered additional places to put flyers.
Patrick Saltonstall said he's bummed he won't be here for the public meeting.
ADJOURNMENT
COMMITTEE MEMBER FOREMAN MOVED to adjourn.
VICE CHAIR SALTONSTALL adjourned the meeting at 7:50 p.m.
