FY2007-28 Window Replacement at East Elementary SchoolWHEREAS, the Borough voters approved the review of Borough owned school facilities
for seismic vulnerability; and
WHEREAS, the Borough hired a structural engineering firm to review building plans and
conduct a seismic evaluation of these facilities; and
WHEREAS, the East Elementary School classroom windows in the old wing were found
to be unsafe and have been identified to readily crack and produce glass shards during a
large seismic event; and
WHEREAS, an application to the State of Alaska Hazard Mitigation Grant (HMGP)
program was submitted to address East Elementary Windows was approved;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH THAT the Manager is authorized to accept $138,606 from the
Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs - Division of Homeland Security and
Emergency Management and is authorized to execute a grant agreement and any other
documents deemed necessary to accept and expend the grant and to implement the
intent of this Resolution.
