A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
ESTABLISHING THE MINIMUM AMOUNT OF FUNDS TO BE MADE AVAILABLE
FROM LOCAL SOURCES FOR THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH SCHOOL DISTRICT
FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 2003 AND ENDING JUNE 30, 2004
WHEREAS, Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances 3.08.030B provides that the
Kodiak Island Borough Board of Education shall submit the proposed budget and local
support requirements for the schools by the thirtieth of April; and
WHEREAS, within thirty days after receipt of the school district budget, the assembly
shall determine the amount of funds to be made available from local sources for school
purposes and shall furnish the Board of Education with a statement of the sum to be
made available; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Education has submitted a proposed budget of $25,230,843
that includes a Kodiak Island Borough contribution for FY2004 of cash and in -kind
services in the amount of $8,077,518; and
WHEREAS, major items of legislation that would affect the funds available from local
sources are yet to be enacted by the federal congress and state legislature; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough School District has proposed numerous budget
cuts, such as closing of the pool that may require transfer of maintenance and
custodial operations to the Kodiak Island Borough; and
WHEREAS, the amount of funds to be appropriated from local sources for schooF
purposes will be incorporated into Ordinance No. 2003 -10, the Borough's fiscal year
2004 appropriation and tax levy ordinance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that the minimum amount for the Kodiak Island Borough School District
education operating budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004 is set at
$24,929,464 including a Kodiak Island Borough local contribution of $7,776,140 of
which $6,626,440 is cash and $1,149,700 is in -kind services.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH that a determination regarding additional funding may be made
available to the Kodiak Island Borough School District based upon federal and state
funding available for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2004.
