2003-14 State Acquisition of Afognak ParcelsWHEREAS, the State of Alaska seeks to acquire over 16,000 acres of land on the north end of Afognak Island to ensure long term habitat preservation; and WHEREAS, the State Legislature through the offices of Representative Ogg and Senator Stevens has requested the position of the Kodiak Island Borough as to whether this transaction is in the public interest; and KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 2003 -14 A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING STATE ACQUISITION OF AFOGNAK PARCELS WHEREAS, the owners of the property, along with members of the public and representatives of the commercial fishing, guiding, and tourism industry have requested Kodiak Island Borough support of the transaction; and WHEREAS, the transaction is subject to a deed restriction ensuring public use of the property for hunting and fishing; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLA s1 BOROUGH THAT the Assembly supports the state acquisition of the North Afognak parcels.
