A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
SUPPORTING THE RECENT NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES CAMPAIGN TO
ACQUIRE FEDERAL FUNDING FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
WHEREAS, there is a deep concern that funding for first responders promised nearly
a year ago has still not been provided to America's borough, cities, towns, and
villages; and
WHEREAS, the nation's boroughs, cities, and towns have carried the burden for
homeland security since the September 11, 2001 attacks; and
WHEREAS, at the recent National League of Cities conference in Salt Lake City,
leaders from across the country voiced their deep disappointment with the absence of
federal funding for police, firefighters, and emergency response staff; and
WHEREAS, the well being of families in America requires that homeland security funds
not come at the expense of reducing appropriations in other key area — public safety,
crime prevention, transportation, and other key priorities for boroughs, cities, and
towns; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
ASSEMBLY supports the recent National League of Cities Campaign to acquire federal
funding for first responders.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
hereby urges President Bush and the Congressional leaders' to secure by March 1,
2003, the $3.5 billion first responder funding proposed earlier this year.
