A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH

STATEWIDE ALL - TERRAIN VEHICLE (ATV) REGISTRATION PROGRAM
AS PART OF A LONG -TERM STRATEGY TO ADDRESS ATV ISSUES
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough All- Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Stakeholder
Committee provided a forum for public discussion of ATV issues; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the ATV Stakeholder Committee was to recommend potential
solutions and strategies to the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly regarding local ATV
and trail issues; and
WHEREAS, the ATV Stakeholder Committee made a formal recommendation via its
Resolution No. 2002 -02 -R that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly adopt a resolution
supporting a statewide ATV registration program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
that:
Section 1: The Alaska State Legislature is urged to adopt a statewide all- terrain
vehicle (ATV) local option registration program.
Section 2: The statewide licensing program, similar to the program for licensing
motorcycles, shall impact only the urban areas of the State of Alaska.
Section 3: This resolution will be submitted to the Alaska Municipal League and the
Alaska State Legislature for consideration during the 2003 legislative
session.
