NOMINATING THE ANTON LARSEN BAY ROAD PAVING PROJECT FOR THE
STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, Anton Larsen Bay Road is a major thoroughfare that is in serious disrepair
and in need of paving; and
WHEREAS, the first two miles of Anton Larsen Bay Road is used intensely by U.S.
Coast Guard base personnel for access to recreational facilities and areas; and
WHEREAS, Anton Larsen Bay Road provides vehicle access to Anton Larsen Bay
which is heavily used as a marine access to outlying communities and recreational
areas in times of dangerous weather; and
WHEREAS, there is strong public support for this project as Anton Larsen Bay Road
is an existing State road and improvements will not require additional right -of -way and
will significantly enhance the safety and welfare of the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
that it is requested that the State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public
Facilities, in the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for the Kodiak Island
Borough, include the paving of approximately two miles of Anton Larsen Bay Road
beginning at its intersection with Rezanof Drive and ending beyond the Bear Valley
Golf Course.
