2001-44 Supporting KATSSUPPORTING TH KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 2001 -44 Introduced by: Assemblymember Branson Requested by: Assemblymember Branson Drafted by: Assemblymember Branson Introduced: 10/18/2001 Adopted: 10/18/2001 A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH WHEREAS, the Kodiak Area Transit System (KATS) has served the community and local non - profits as a coordinated transit system since August 2000; and WHEREAS, Kodiak area non - profit agencies use a coordinated transit system instead of each agency having its own vehicle; and WHEREAS, KATS provides assistance to people to live independently and with mobility for as long as possible; and WHEREAS, KATS provided more than 12,000 rides last year to 1,500 people for medical and dental appointments, shopping, outings, picking up prescriptions, welfare to work, adult day programs, child care, nursing home residents, and transportation for students of the Kodiak Island Borough School District, for college classes, and after school activities; and WHEREAS, KATS is the only coordinated transportation system in the state with more than 17 local non- profit agencies participating; and WHEREAS, KATS is cost - efficient and is fundamental to the quality of life for many Kodiak residents who cannot afford other means of transportation; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY that we continue to support the Kodiak Area Transit System as a state recognized coordinated transit system for our community.
