A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
HONORING THE KODIAK HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM
FOR WINNING THE ASAA /FIRST NATIONAL BANK 2001
STATE 4A BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
WHEREAS, the Alaska Students Activity Association (ASAA), established in 1956,
is a statewide non - profit organization that directs, develops, and supports Alaska's
high school interscholastic sports, academic, and fine arts activities; and
WHEREAS, the ASAA sets the competitive seasons, sponsors state competitions,
regulates sports officials, and provides eligibility criteria for students; and
WHEREAS, the ASAA membership is comprised of over 200 public and private Alaska
high schools that range from a 7- student rural school in Deering to metropolitan
schools as large as Service High School's student body of 2,200; and
WHEREAS, for the first time in Kodiak history the Kodiak High School (KHS) Boys
Basketball Team has won the ASAA /First National Bank Alaska State 4A
Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak High School Boys Basketball Team won the championship in
perfect fashion with a 28 -0 record; and
WHEREAS, the 2001 Championship Team includes:

Geoffery Agmata Tim LeDoux
James Bailie Curtis Mortenson
Nick Billings Phil Nisbett
Tom Kinsley Adam Schwarz
and
Team Managers: Jocelyn Peterson and Bernice Nisbett

Head Coach: Amy Rakers
WHEREAS, the Kodiak High School Boys Basketball Team had many individual
accomplishments; however, the most important was the commitment to each other

enabling them to become an effective team; and
WHEREAS, the KHS Boys Basketball Team was led to victory by the coaching staff
of Amy Rakers who found this team to be unselfish, had great attitudes, and played
hard as a team throughout the season;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly, Mayor, and staff congratulate
the KHS Boys Basketball Team, Team Managers, and Coaching staff on winning their
first Alaska State Championship with a record of 28 -0.
