2001-21 Office of Citizenship AssitanceA RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH URGING
THE ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE TO ESTABLISH THE OFFICE OF CITIZENSHIP
ASSISTANCE AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, on February 14, 2001 Senators Pete Kelly, Alan Austerman, Johnny Ellis
sponsored Senate Bill 90 (SB 90) to amend Alaska Statutes Title 24, adding Chapter
52 Office of Citizenship Assistance; and
WHEREAS, on February 16, 2001 Senator Robin Taylor asked and was unanimously
appointed as a co- sponsor of SB 90; and
WHEREAS, The Citizenship Assistance Office would 1) provide information, including
referrals to public and private resources, to persons in the state who have become
naturalized citizens of the United States or are about to become naturalized citizens
of the United States; 2) act as a liaison, upon request, between a naturalized citizen
and the office of the ombudsman established under AS 24.55; and 3) act as a liaison,
upon request, between a naturalized citizen and the state Commission for Human
Rights as established under Alaska Statutes 24.55;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly urges the Alaska State Legislature
to support Senate Bill 90 to establish the Office of Citizenship Assistance and to
provide an effective date.
