2001-13 Grant Application for KANAKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 2001 -13 Introduced by: Manager Jensen Requested by: Community Development Department Drafted by: Community Development Director Introduced: 03/01/2001 Adopted: 03/01/2001 A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH SUPPORTING A GRANT APPLICATION TO THE FIRST ALASKANS FOUNDATION BY THE KODIAK AREA NATIVE ASSOCIATION (KANA) WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough as a second class borough is mandated by Title 29, Alaska Statutes, to provide for planning, platting, and land use regulation on an area wide basis; and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough encourages communities and organizations within the Borough to undertake special planning projects to address planning issues that generally fall outside the scope of the Borough's established service level for area wide planning; and WHEREAS, KANA proposes to develop Community Strategic Plans on behalf of seven (7) communities within the Kodiak Island Borough, including the cities of Kodiak, Akhiok, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Port Lions, Ouzinkie, and the village of Karluk; and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough recognizes that the proposed Community Strategic Plans may overlap certain issues addressed in existing and future Borough plans; and WHEREAS, in order to minimize potential conflict between plans, it is recommended that KANA coordinate its planning effort with the Kodiak Island Borough Community Development Department so that the eventual implementation of the resulting Community Strategic Plans can be integrated with Borough plans, to the greatest extent possible; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH that the Assembly supports a grant application to the First Alaskans Foundation by the Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA), in order to develop Community Strategic Plans on behalf of seven (7) Kodiak Island Borough Communities, including the cities of Kodiak, Akhiok, Larsen Bay, Old Harbor, Port Lions, Ouzinkie, and the village of Karluk; and Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska Resolution No. 2001 -13 Page 1 of 2 NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH that KANA is encouraged to closely coordinate its planning effort with the Kodiak Island Borough Community Development Department.
