A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
SUPPORTING THE APPOINTMENT OF CAROLYN L. FLOYD
TO THE UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA BOARD OF REGENTS
WHEREAS, two eight -year appointments will be made to the University of Alaska
Board of Regents this year; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn L. Floyd is seeking appointment to the University of Alaska Board
of Regents; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn L. Floyd was employed by the University of Alaska for twenty
years, beginning as an instructor in 1967, followed by appointment to Director of the
Kodiak Community College in 1968, until her retirement in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn L. Floyd's extraordinary vision, leadership, and determination
were the driving force for the academic direction of the college and the development
of the campus center upon its present 50 acre site; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn L Floyd's demonstrated ability to work within the University
system and with the legislature allowed the college campus to expand during a ten -
year period to include the addition of fisheries, math, science, diesel, and general
vocational Tabs; and the expansion of the main building, increasing classrooms and the
library; and
WHEREAS, while Carolyn L. Floyd worked unceasingly to mold the Kodiak Community
College into an exceptional academic facility, she also promoted higher education on
a personal, state, and national level by earning her Masters Degree during the summer
at the University of Mississippi and serving as a board member of the Northwest
Educational Lab and the Alaska Humanities Forum, as an accreditation team member
of the Northwest Association Commission on Colleges, and an active member of the
American Association of Community and Junior Colleges; and
WHEREAS, following her retirement from the University of Alaska, Carolyn L. Floyd
was appointed by the Chancellor to co -write the University of Alaska Anchorage
Accreditation Self -Study Report; and

WHEREAS, in her role of Mayor of the City of Kodiak and Past President of the Alaska
Municipal League, Carolyn L. Floyd has diligently worked to encourage statewide
legislative support of higher education; and
WHEREAS, Carolyn L. Floyd has a deep respect of the cultural diversity throughout
Alaska and seeks opportunities to celebrate diversity while promoting unity; and
WHEREAS, throughout her professional and civic career, Carolyn L. Floyd has
personified the values of the University of Alaska and its Mission Statement; and
WHEREAS, the entire State of Alaska would be well- served by the appointment of
Carolyn L. Floyd to the University of Alaska Board of Regents, including rural
communities with smaller colleges and extension centers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly enthusiastically supports
the appointment of Carolyn L. Floyd to the University of Alaska Board of Regents.
