2001-04 Reapportionment for Kodiak IslandKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 2001 -04 Introduced by: Manager Jensen Requested by: Assembly Drafted by: Manager Jensen Introduced: 02/01/2001 Adopted: 02/01/2001 A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH REQUESTING THAT THE REDISTRICTING BOARD PREPARE A PLAN FOR REAPPORTIONMENT FOR KODIAK ISLAND WHEREAS, a decennial reapportionment of the Alaska Legislature is constitutionally required and shall be based upon the civilian population within each election district as reported by the United States census; and WHEREAS, a redistricting board has been appointed by the Governor to prepare a plan for reapportionment and redistricting; and WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly believes that Senate District C as currently drawn is widely disparate in interests including an unrelated and an unintegrated socio- economic area without due consideration of local government boundaries, drainage, and geographic features; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY that the redistricting board is requested to prepare a plan for reapportionment which will allow Kodiak Island to be more closely affiliated with the socio- economic and geographic interests of the Western Gulf of Alaska, the Alaska Peninsula, and areas westward of Kodiak.
