2000-35 ADOT Homeport M/V TustemenaA RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH REQUESTING THE ALASKA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND PUBLIC FACILITIES TO ESTABLISH THE HOMEPORT FOR THE M/V TUSTEMENA AS KODIAK AND INCREASE THE FREQUENCY OF SERVICE BETWEEN HOMER, KODIAK, KODIAK COMMUNITIES, AND COMMUNITIES ALONG THE ALASKA PENINSULA AND ALEUTIAN ISLANDS AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE WHEREAS, the State of Alaska ferry M/V Tustemena provides scheduled service between Homer and Kodiak, Alaska and communities westward from Kodiak including Chignik, Sand Point, King Cove, Cold Bay, False Pass, Akutan, and Unalaska; and WHEREAS, enhanced frequency of service to Kodiak and westward communities would improve the regional economic development of southwestern Alaska; and WHEREAS, the State of Alaska Department of Transportation has performed an economic analysis of the re- routing of the M/V Tustemena improving cyclic service between Homer and Kodiak and communities westward from Kodiak and that said economic analysis has determined that discontinuance of service between Kodiak and Seward is appropriate and enhanced frequency of service between Homer and westward Alaska communities is desirable. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly requests the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities to establish the homeport for the M/V Tustemena as Kodiak and increase the frequency of service between Homer, Kodiak, Kodiak communities, and communities along the Alaska Peninsula and Aleutian Islands as soon as practicable.
