Nielsen, CMC, Bo • s • h Clerk KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH RESOLUTION NO. 2000 -10 Introduced by: Mayor Stevens Requested by: Mayor Stevens Drafted by: Borough Clerk Introduced: 03/16/2000 Adopted: 03/16/2000 A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH SUPPORTING CENSUS 2000 WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States mandates that a population count be conducted every ten years; and WHEREAS, a United States census has been conducted every ten years since 1790; and WHEREAS, an estimated 275 million residents in nearly 120 million households will be counted in Census 2000; and WHEREAS, the census is conducted in the strictest of confidence and personal information is not disclosed to anyone for any reason for 72 years; and WHEREAS, information gathered in Census 2000 will help ensure that all congressional districts in the United States have proportionate representation in the government; and WHEREAS, information gathered in Census 2000 will help determine how communities across the nation receive their fair share of more than $185 billion in federal funding each year; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH THAT the Assembly of the Kodiak Island Borough supports Census 2000 as the first census of the new century, and of which information received will form the cornerstone of knowledge about our nation for the next decade. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH THAT the Assembly of the Kodiak Island Borough recognizes April 1 as National Census Day and encourages the community to make a commitment to ensure that there is a complete and accurate count of all residents of Kodiak Island.
