1999-11 Supporting Reconstruction/Extension Karluk AirportA RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
SUPPORTING RECONSTRUCTION AND EXTENSION OF THE KARLUK RUNWAY
WHEREAS, the need to reconstruct and extend the Karluk community runway has
been identified in the "Statewide Transportation Needs and Priorities in Alaska"
document; and
WHEREAS, the project which includes extension of the runway to 3,000 feet and
widening of the runway to 60 feet, as well as resurfacing, has been ranked in the
"Statewide Transportation Improvement Program" document; and
WHEREAS, this project is necessary to bring the runway up to current standards; and
WHEREAS, until the project is complete the Karluk runway presents a safety hazard
to those using it; and
WHEREAS, the completion of this project will not only benefit the residents of Karluk,
but all who travel to the area, including the large number of recreational users;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that the Alaska Department of Transportation is urged to proceed with the
identified, necessary improvements to the Karluk runway.
