KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
RESOLUTION NO. 99 -04
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING
THE KODIAK DISTRICT - ALASKA STATE PARKS' GRANT APPLICATION TO
THE ALASKA RECREATIONAL TRAILS PROGRAM FOR FUNDING IMPROVEMENTS TO
THE LAKE GERTRUDE TRAIL AT FORT ABERCROMBIE STATE HISTORIC PARK
WHEREAS, the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Park is located four miles from the urban
center of Kodiak, and is easily accessible to Kodiak residents; and
WHEREAS, the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Park has 180 acres of rugged coastline
and mature Sitka spruce forest provide local residents, and tourists, with a variety of
recreational opportunities, including picnicking, beach combing, and hiking; and
WHEREAS, the Fort Abercrombie State Historic Park trail system, especially the Lake
Gertrude trail, provides year -round access to recreational activities in the park; and
WHEREAS, the improvements made to the Lake Gertrude trail by the Kodiak District -
Alaska State Parks have made this trail safer and more enjoyable; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak District - Alaska State Parks has applied for approximately
$27,000.00 in trail improvement funding from the Alaska Recreational Trails Program to
complete the Lake Gertrude trail improvements;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough supports the Kodiak District - Alaska State
Parks funding request, to the Alaska Recreational Trails Program, for improvements to the
Lake Gertrude trail.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough urges the Trails and Recreational
Access for Alaska Board to fund this request.
