1999-03 Supporting Census 2000WHEREAS, the census is vital to our community in that it determines the
apportionment of seats in the United States House of Representatives and our State's
Legislature and is the basis for the allocation of billions of dollars of federal, state, and
local funding for social and other programs; and
WHEREAS, the census is also used to aid in determining where to locate schools, day
care centers, senior citizen centers, hospitals, and other facilities and is used to make
decisions concerning business growth and jobs; and
WHEREAS, census information is confidential and federal law prohibits any public or
private agency from gaining access to confidential census data; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough is committed to a full and accurate census
count and is placing special emphasis on enumerating members of population groups
traditionally undercounted;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that Census 2000 is a top priority for stakeholders and leaders within our
community, and participation in our jurisdiction's Complete Count Committee is
encouraged.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH that full participation by members of our municipal staff in all
matters related to technical preparation for Census 2000, including the annual
Boundary and Annexation Survey and the Local Update of Census Addresses is
encouraged.
