A RESOLUTION OF THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
ESTABLISHING THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH CLERK'S OFFICE
AS A PASSPORT ACCEPTANCE FACILITY
WHEREAS, the Seattle Passport Agency, serving Alaska, relies heavily on passport
acceptance facilities throughout the region to serve the needs of the scattered
population; and
WHEREAS, the Passport Acceptance Facility on Kodiak Island, the state District Court
office, plans to greatly curtail its passport hours or even cease accepting applications
altogether due to workload concerns; and
WHEREAS, by U.S. regulations, local government officials may serve as a Passport
Acceptance Facility to serve as a liaison between the applicants and the Passport
Agency; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough can be authorized to provide this essential
service to residents of the community;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough Clerk's Office is authorized to serve as a
Passport Acceptance Facility during the hours of normal operation of the Kodiak Island
Borough.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH that a request be forwarded to the United States Department of
State to prepare a special designation for the facility and its employees who will serve
as agents and that the relevant Passport Agency provide initial training and supplies,
as well as full support so that there is no cost to the facility.
