A RESOLUTION APPROVING A FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR ($5,000)
GRANT TO KODIAK CRIME STOPPERS TO BE USED
TO FIGHT VANDALISM ON KODIAK ISLAND
WHEREAS, there is a growing problem with vandalism of public recreation facilities
on the road system in Kodiak; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough spends federal, state, and local taxpayer dollars
to create and build areas and facilities to provide recreation activities to the residents
of Kodiak; and
WHEREAS, the lakeside gazebo at Otmeloi Park has been burned down twice; the
recently completed public rest rooms, bridges, and stairs at the end of Monashka Bay
Road have been heavily damaged; and the rest room facility at Salonie Creek was
burned down shortly after construction was finished; and
WHEREAS, these acts of vandalism cost all the taxpayers of the Kodiak Island
Borough for repair and replacement of these facilities; and
WHEREAS, the community can no longer afford to build recreation facilities only to
have them destroyed by vandals; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the community to catch and prosecute the
person or persons responsible for damaging these publicly owned facilities; and
WHEREAS, Kodiak Crime Stoppers has a successful program to help catch
perpetrators of these acts of vandalism; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly wishes to stop this rampant
vandalism to publicly owned recreation facilities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that the Kodiak community will no longer tolerate vandalism to its publicly
owned facilities.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK
ISLAND BOROUGH that the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly will contribute a five
thousand dollars ($5,000) reward paid through the Kodiak Crime Stoppers program to
mount a concerted effort to catch and prosecute the vandals responsible for the
damage to the new Monashka Bay Park and one thousand dollars ($1,000) as a grant
for advertising to promote site specific reward.
