A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A GRANT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION FOR THE VERTICAL EXPANSION OF THE
KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH LANDFILL
WHEREAS, in accordance with AS 46.03.030, Governor Knowles and the Alaska
Department of Environmental Conservation have made available to the Kodiak Island
Borough a landfill expansion grant in an amount not to exceed $1,000,000; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough has sought this grant funding to assist with the
cost of the proposed solid waste utility improvement project to construct the vertical
expansion, leachate control and treatment, and partial closure of the Borough landfill;
and
WHEREAS, this grant will finance the vertical expansion of the landfill, final contour
configurations of the site, drainage control, slope stability, allowances for future lateral
expansion phases, as well as leachate control and treatment and new wastewater
storage facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough agrees to operate and maintain the completed
solid waste utility improvement according to the terms of the grant agreement;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH agrees to accept Department of Environmental Conservation grant #50506
for the purpose intended in the resolution and to abide by the terms and conditions of
the grant agreement for this project.
