A RESOLUTION NAMING THE HOSPITAL ON KODIAK ISLAND, ALASKA
THE WILTON T. WHITE HOSPITAL
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White has dedicated many years of his life to serving the
community of Kodiak and has been one of the most outstanding leaders this
community has produced; and
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White first arrived in Kodiak in July 1919, at only a few
months of age, and has made his home here ever since; and
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White is an outstanding example of an elected public official
and volunteer who worked long and hard to make Kodiak a better place to live; and
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White was first elected to office in the late 1940s when he
became a member of the Kodiak Electric Association Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White served on the Kodiak School Board of Education in the
early 1950s; and
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White was elected to the Kodiak City Council in 1956 for a
three -year term, reelected for a three -year term following a short break, appointed
to an unfinished term in 1961, and reelected to the Council in the 1970s; and
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White served on the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly as well
as being elected the second, fourth, and fifth Borough Chairman; and
WHEREAS, Wilton T. White served two four -year terms on the Kodiak Island Hospital
Advisory Board and as a member of the Lutheran Homes System Board of Directors;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH that in recognition of the many years of dedicated service and leadership
to the Kodiak Island Borough, the City of Kodiak, the Kodiak Electric Association, the
Kodiak Island School District, and the Kodiak Island Hospital Advisory Board, it is right
and fitting that the Kodiak Island Hospital be named the Wilton T. White Hospital.
