AN ORDINANCE OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY REZONING PORTIONS
OF U.S. SURVEY 2261 FROM C- CONSERVATION TO I- INDUSTRIAL AND
FROM I- INDUSTRIAL TO C- CONSERVATION IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MAP
SUBMITTED BY THE CITY OF KODIAK, DATED MAY 16, 2001
(SOUTH END OF NEAR ISLAND ALONG DOG SALMON BAY ROAD)
WHEREAS, the City of Kodiak wishes to amend and clarify zoning boundaries that were
previously established by Kodiak Island Borough Ordinance 88 -01 -0, for a portion of the
I- Industrial area located along the St. Herman Harbor shoreline; and,
WHEREAS, the proposed zoning boundary is generally consistent with the 1987 Near Island
Comprehensive Plan; and,
WHEREAS, Kodiak Island Borough Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on
this rezone request at their June 20, 2001 regular meeting; and
WHEREAS, upon consideration of the request, the Commission has recommended that the
Assembly approve the amendment of the zoning boundary between portions of the I- Industrial
and C- Conservation zones on Near Island;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT:
Section 1: This ordinance is not of general application and shall not be codified.
Section 2: Portions of U.S. Survey 2261, as depicted on Exhibit A (attached), are hereby
rezoned from C- Conservation to I- Industrial and from I- Industrial to C-
Conservation.
Section 3: The findings of the Kodiak Island Borough Planning and Zoning Commission are
hereby confirmed as follows:
17.72.020 A. Findings as to the Need and Justification for a Change or Amendment.
The rezone is needed and justified to permit rock extraction that is needed to create sufficient
upland area in support of the design and use of St. Herman Harbor. The request simply clarifies
the boundary between I- Industrial and C- Conservation zoned areas, in lieu of a platted
subdivision boundary. The relative area of the affected zones will remain largely unchanged.

significant effect on the objectives of the 1987 Near Island Comprehensive Plan.
