AN ORDINANCE OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY AMENDING
KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH CODE OF ORDINANCES
TITLE 15 BUILDINGS AND CONSTRUCTION
TO STANDARDIZE THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
AND THE CITY OF KODIAK BUILDING CODES
WHEREAS, the Joint Building Code Review Committee has met with the building official
to consider revisions to the building and construction codes; and
WHEREAS, the Joint Building Code Review Committee has recommended that the City
of Kodiak and the Kodiak Island Borough adopt updated building and construction code
editions; and
WHEREAS, the Joint Building Code Review Committee has recommended that the City
of Kodiak and the Kodiak Island Borough adopt identical building and construction codes,
where possible, since identical codes are of great benefit to builders, property owners,
and staff;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
BOROUGH THAT:
Section 1: This ordinance is of a general and permanent nature and shall become a part
of the Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances.
Section 2: Chapter 15.04 Building Codes of Title 15 Buildings and Construction of the
Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances is hereby amended as follows:
15.04.010 Adoption of building and other codes. The following codes are hereby adopted by
reference as the building codes for the borough:
A. the [199411997 Uniform Building Code excluding Chapter 29, Plumbing and
Systems, and including Appendix Chapter 3, Division II- Agricultural Buildings; Appendix Chapter
11, Accessibility, Division I -Site Accessibility, and Division II- Existing Buildings; excerpts from
Appendix Chapter 23 which are included in the Uniform Building Code Vol. 1; options to Appendix
Chapter 23, for exposure C and D High Wind Wall Framing and Wood Piles, by Barry Still;
Appendix Chapter 29, Minimum Plumbing Facilities; Appendix Chapter 33, Excavation and
Grading; and Appendix Chapter 34 Division I, Existing Structures;
B. the [199411997 Uniform Plumbing Code including Appendix Chapter B,

15.04.055 Uniform Building Code Chapter Appendix 33 amended. Appendix Chapter 33 of the
[199411997, Uniform Building Code is amended to read as follows:
15.04.060 Sanitation facilities. Section 2902.6 of the Uniform Building Code ([199 edition)
is amended by adding the following at the end of this section:
Section 3: Chapter 15.12 Plumbing Code of Title 15 Bui /dings and Construction of the
Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances is hereby amended as follows:
15.12.080 Code -- Exception. Subsection [603.3.4] 603.4.4.1 of the R99411997 Uniform Plumbing
Code is amended to read:
Section 4: Chapter 15.24 Fire Code of Title 15 Buildings and Construction of the
Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances is hereby amended as follows:
15.24.010 Adoption. The [1994] 1997 Uniform Fire Code is hereby adopted by reference as the fire
code for the borough.
