1997-22 Reverting from Mayor Plan to Manager Plan of GovtKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ORDINANCE NO. 97 -22 Introduced by: Requested by: Drafted: Introduced: Public Hearing: Adopted: ORDINANCE REVERTING FROM A MAYOR PLAN OF GOVERNMENT TO A MANAGER PLAN OF GOVERNMENT Assembly Initiative Borough Clerk 11/25/97 1 2/04/97 1 2/04/97 WHEREAS, the registered voters of the Kodiak Island Borough at the regular municipal election of October 7, 1997, voted on an initiative question to adopt a manager plan of government whereby a hired manager shall be the chief administrative officer of the Kodiak Island Borough; and WHEREAS, the voters, by a vote of 1012 yes to 962 no, voted to adopt the manager plan of government; and WHEREAS, a majority of the voters of the Kodiak Island Borough have determined that it is in the best interest of the Kodiak Island Borough to adopt and implement the manager plan; WHEREAS, Alaska Statutes 29.20.480 provides that a) if a manager plan is approved, the governing body shall, within 60 days, adopt the plan by ordinance or resolution; and b) the governing body shall notify the state Department of Community and Regional Affairs of the adoption of a manager plan; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH THAT: Section 1: This ordinance is not of a general and permanent nature and shall not become a part of the Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances. Section 2: The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly hereby adopts the manager plan of government to establish the position of manager to be the chief administrator of the Kodiak Island Borough, as provided in AS 29.20.480. The manager shall execute the laws and ordinances and administer the government of the Kodiak Island Borough in accordance with the directions and policies established by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly. The effective date of this ordinance to put in place the manager plan is October 19, 1998, as provided by the question on the initiative.
