1994-21 Amending Chapter 6.04 Animal ControlAN ORDINANCE AMENDING KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH CODE OF ORDINANCES CHAPTER 6.04 ANIMAL CONTROL WHEREAS, there is a need to address animal control of feral animals in Kodiak; and WHEREAS, the Humane Society of Kodiak proposed implementation of a program to reduce the number of feral animals; and WHEREAS, control measures that already apply to dogs are necessary to apply to animals at- large; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH THAT: Section 1: Section 2: 6.04.180 Impoundment and release. 1. If a dog k>rC is determined to be a fierce, dangerous, or vicious and it cannot be safely captured and impounded, the dog of of r r may be destroyed by a public safety officer. 2. Upon impounding a dog €f11?t€[, the animal control officer or impounding officer shall make reasonable efforts to notify the owner or custodian of the animal, and if the owner or custodian is not known and cannot be reasonably ascertained, shall post a notice at the borough clerk's office containing a description of the dog of r< > l and the date and location of impoundment. 3. Fees for impoundment and daily fees for boarding impounded dogs >e`i1 § shall be established by resolution of the assembly. 6. An animal impounded under the provisions of this chapter shall be held in the pound or other suitable facilities for a period not to exceed seventy -two hours, which must include one full business day, and unless released prior to the Kodiak Island Borough, Alaska KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ORDINANCE NO. 94 -21 This ordinance is of a general and permanent nature and shall become a part of the Kodiak Island Borough Code of Ordinances.
