AN ORDINANCE ACCEPTING A DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
GRANT AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO EFFECT CERTAIN LINE ITEM
AND /OR PROJECT LEVEL CHANGES IN THE FY 1990 BUDGET
WHEREAS, the Department of Education has awarded the
Kodiak Island Borough a grant in the amount of $85,500.00 for
asbestos related expenditures; and
WHEREAS, this item has been pending for some two years
and the related expenditures have been initially funded and
incurred via Borough funded appropriations; and
WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 88 -16 -R, adopted on April 7,
1988, $255,000 in interest earnings was transferred from Fund 45 to
Fund 47 to handle a temporary project; and
WHEREAS, the intent was to restore these funds after
investment earnings materialized; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Assembly and Mayor to do
limited painting projects in the village schools this summer; and
WHEREAS, certain projects are nearing completion with
funds in excess of need and others are unfunded or need additional
funds;
WHEREAS, the superintendent of schools has a
reimbursement committment from the state Department of Education
for an 80% reimbursement for a capital expenditure; and
WHEREAS, the East Elementary roof requires immediate
attention to avoid possible major deterioration of the building;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Kodiak Island
Borough Assembly:
Section 1. Classification. This ordinance is not of a
general application and shall not be codified.
Section 2. The Kodiak Island Borough accepts the
Department of Education grant AHERA 27 -89 in the amount of
$85,500.00.
Section 3. Appropriation. The following appropriation
changes are made and staff is hereby authorized and directed to
make such reclassifications as are necessary to effect the
following project level changes:

Section 4. Upon completion of the East Elementary roof
project any unexpended funds will be restored on close -out to the
original Peterson project and upon receipt of funds from the state
Department of Education for debt service reimbursement (2 -year lag)
funds will also be restored to the original Peterson project.
