1970-04 Amending Chapte 3 and Reenacting to Provide Exemptions From Taxes for Sr. CitizensK R T I 1 KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ORDINANCE NUMBER 70 -4 -0 I AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3 SECTION 7.1 OF THE DDIAK ISLAND BOROUGH CODE OF ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS BY EPEALING AND RE- ENACTING THE SAME TO PROVIDE EXEMPTIONS FROM AXES FOR SENIOR CITIZENS EAPNING LESS THAN A STATED AMOUNT OF NCOME PER YEAR. BE IT ORDAINED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly ,hat Chapter 3, Section 7.1 of the Kodiak Island Borough Code if Ordinances and Resolutions is hereby repealed and re- enacted :o read as follows: 7 1 Exemption from Taxation: One piece of Section residential property owned and occupied by a citizen who meets the following requirements as defined by the Social Security Act; age (minimum) and age retired i man or woman, age sixty - sixty -five (standard); widow age sixty (minimum) and age sixty -two (standard); disabled widow, age fifty (minimum) and age sixty -two (standard); disabled dependent widower, age fifty (minimum) and sixty-two (standard); dependent husband of retired or disabled` age Y -five (standard); wife, age sixty -two (minimum) and age sixty (standard); who is dependent widower, no exemption, age sixty -two a resident of the Kodiak Island Borough, and who has been a resider. of the State of Alaska for not less than ten (10) years last past and who is head of a household, and who had an annual income for the preceding calendar year of not more than SIX THOUSAND and No /100ths ($6,000.00) DOLLARS, total income from all sources including spouse's earnings, if married, the property tax on the d including the amount of property owned by such citizen up to an shall be exempt, THREE HUNDRED and No /100ths ($300-00) *DOLLARS and provided further that not more than one exemption shall be allowed to any one person or head of household per Year' This The exemption shall not be automatic but must be applied for. application must be accompanied by copies of the previous calenda Page One, OR NO. 70 -4 -0 i year's Federal Income Tax Returns. The exemption may be applied for at any time during the year by each qualified citizen, but not later than August 1st of the current tax year. Each applicatic shall be presented to the Borough Assembly for approval and must receive an affirmative vote from all of the Assembly members present before the exemption is granted. Any citizen whose properl is listed on the foreclosure list at the time this ordinance becomes effective and who would be qualified for exemption under the terms hereof as to age, income and residency at the time the taxes became due, shall be 'included, provided that the application and documentation is presented for consideration to the Assembly within sixty (60) days after this ordinance becomes effective.
