1983-120 Supporting The Availability Of Sandy Beach At Gibson Cove As An Outdoor Recreation Area.A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY SUPPORTING THE
AVAILABILITY OF SANDY BEACH AT GIBSON COVE AS AN OUTDOOR RECREATION AREA.
WHEREAS, both the Kodiak Island Borough Parks and Recreation Commit-
tee and the City of Kodiak Recreational Advisory Board have recommended that
Sandy Beach be available as an outdoor recreation site; and
WHEREAS, Sandy Beach has traditionally served as a recreation site
for many years; and
WHEREAS, the actual recreation site is currently owned by another
government agency (BLM) and access to the site is controlled by the Alaska
Resources Corporation; and
WHEREAS, the Assembly feels that walking access and use of the site
should be ensured, for the continued benefit of the community; and
WHEREAS, the Assembly recognizes the value and importance of Gibson
Cove area for industrial development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
• Assembly supports the availability of Sandy Beach at Gibson Cove as an outdoor
recreation site and requests that walking access to the site be maintained as
development of the Gibson Cove area takes place.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly that
copies of this resolution be sent to BLM, ARC, the State of Alaska, and our
State representatives.
