RESOLUTION NWBER 68 -43 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOROUGH ASSEMBLY OF THE KODIAK ISLAND
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska has the responsibility for main-
tainin the arterial highways and the sidewalks along Resanof Drive
within the Kodiak Island Borough and,
WHEREAS, on December 1st and 2nd, 1968, during a severe snow
storm the Department of Highways failed to properly maintain access along
these arterial highways and the sidewalks along Resanof Drive and,
IZETEAS, during the same period of time the like forces of the
City of Kodiak did provide adequate access on the feeder streets and
roads to these arterial highways and in some cases sections of the
arterial highways due to the failure of the Department of Highways to do
so, and
WHEREAS, the failure of the Department of Highways to properly
attempt to keep these arterial highways and the sidewalks along Resanof
Drive opened caused undue and unreasonable hardship and financial loss
to the citizens of the Kodiak Island Borough.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH
ASSEMBLY that in the future the Department of Highways coordinate their
snow removal efforts with those of the City of Kodiak and the U. S. Naval
Station and provide the snow removal and access necessary for the operation
of the day to day functions normally enjoyed and needed by the citizens of
the Kodiak Island Borough insofar as conditions will allow. Ne do not ask
for extraordinary efforts but only those which would normally be expected
to be provided by the Department of Highways.
