RESOLUTION NUMBER 68 -7 -R
A RESOLUTION OF THE KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY
REQUESTING RESTORATION OF ANTON LARSEN ROAD.
WHEREAS, the Anton Larsen Bay Road is a heavily traveled
highway within the Kodiak Island Borough and serves as a vital
link during times of adverse weather to the cities of Ouzinkie and
Port Lions, and
WHEREAS, said road was severely damaged as a result of
the 1964 tidal wave and earthquake and subsidence and has not been
restored, and is now covered at high water for approximately one
mile, and
t^'HEREAS, a petition concerning the restoration of said
road was submitted to the Governor of the State of Alaska and,
(' according to the reply received, it was indicated that an expendi-
, tore of approximately FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND ($500,000) DOLLARS
would be required to re - route the road, and

� WHEREAS, local contractors have estimated that sufficient
'repaiis could be made on the existing road and additional fill
placed thereon for the sum of TWENTY -FIVE THOUSAND ($25,000) DOLLAa
to THIRTY -FIVE THOUSAND ($35,000) DOLLARS,

I NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island
(Borough Assembly go on record as being strongly in favor of the I
!restoration of the Anton Larsen Bay Road now being covered by high !

water; that copies of this resolution be sent to the Governor of
!the State of Alaska, to State Senator Bill Poland and State Reoreset
tative Chuck Powell urging that immediate action be taken to restor4
this road for the benefit of those families residing in Anton Larse,f
Bay, Ouzinkie and Port Lions, for their use as an alternate route
when the weather does not permit their travel into Kodiak by boat__
and that this be done during this construction season.
