05/23/1991 SMKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH Special Assembly Meeting May 23, 1991 A special meeting of the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly was held May 23, 1991, in the Conference Room of the Kodiak Island Borough Building, 710 Mill Bay Road. The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. There were present: Jack McFarland, Presiding Betty Fitzjearl Gordon Gould Suzanne Hancock Mike Milligan Mary Monroe Gary Stevens (arrived at 7:45 p.m.) comprising a quorum of the assembly; and Jerome Selby, Borough Mayor Ray Camardella, Engineering /Facilities Director Donna F. Smith, Deputy Clerk APPROVAL OF AGENDA MONROE, seconded by GOULD MOTION CARRIED NEW BUSINESS A. BID AWARDS 1. Old Harbor School Project. GOULD, seconded by FITZJEARL Special Assembly Meeting May 23. 1991 moved to approve agenda as submitted. Unanimous Voice Vote Structural Repair moved to approve the contract award to Eagle Construction Corporation in an amount NTE $340,571.35 for construction of the Old Harbor School Structural Repair Project including base bid, alternates No. 1, 2, and 3. KIBSI043 REGULAR MEETING ROLL CALL APPROVAL OF AGENDA NEW BUSINESS BID AWARDS OLD HARBOR SCHOOL Volume XIV Page 128 Ray Camardella, Engineering /Facilities Director, was asked for a staff report. He reported that the only difference in the plans the Assembly had approved was Alternative #3, which was to replace the existing carpet in the gymnasium. The contractors expressed their concern of not being able to patch the existing carpet. He added that the completion date was extended to the end of September. Mayor Selby added that the bids were under the engineering estimate for the structural repair, landscaping, fence, flagpole, and replacement of gym carpet. Mr. Camardella stated the project had a significant potential for change orders. He indicated there may be more structural damage that would not be revealed until the outside of the building was removed. He preferred not reducing the monies budgeted until there was clear definition of what needed replaced. VOTE ON MOTION Ayes: Fitzjearl, Gould, Hancock, Milligan, Monroe, Stevens, McFarland Noes: None MOTION CARRIED Unanimous 2. Kodiak High School Alteration Project KODIAK HIGH SCHOOL GOULD, seconded by FITZJEARL moved to approve contract award to Jay -Brant General Contractors of Homer, Alaska, in an amount NTE $350,700 for construction of the High School Alteration Project, Phase I, including base bid and alternate #1. Ray Camardella said there were no changes to the contract documents and the bids were $50,000 under the engineering estimate. Special Assembly Meeting May 23, 1991 KIBS104373 Volume. Page .
