08/09/1974• IV ATTEST: 1 ? i SPECIAL KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSEMBLY MEETING AUGUST 9, 1974 CALL TO ORDER II ROLL CALL The meeting was called to order by Presiding Officer, Mr. Charles Powell, at 3:15 p.m. in the Meeting Room of the Kodiak Island Borough Office Building. PRESENT Mr C Ross Wood Mr. Charles Powell Mr. Haward Anderson Mrs. Betty Wallin There were approximately 8 people in the audience. III NEW BUSINESS A._ Review and Decision on the Use of the U per Wing of the Dorm Building ( Borough Office Building) for Emergency Housin of r Worker;_- Mr. Powell stated that the Borough has received a request anner from the Kodiak Seafood Processors Association; for additional housing as nine processors have indicated their requirement for 303 additional workers other than local hire. The facilities the Borough has to offer are 12 rooms. The Borough Chairman presented suggested items for the rental agreement, stating that the renters were to: clean up the rooms, set up and return furniture; if Borough bedding used, shall be inventoried; install locks on individual rooms and to reinstall Borough locks on door when rooms are turned bac!: to the 3 orough. The Borough will .Taint -in bathrooms and will install deadelcks on doors downstairs. The suogee!ed rent was $40.03 to $50.00 per room per week, or whatever the A 3sembiy desired. The need requirement for the rooms will be from approximately August 15th to October 1st, 1 1g7:!, The Assembly asked Mr. 'Wood if tha other agencies have been notified. Mr. Wood stated that he had contacted the Commissioner of Education, the City Manager and School Administrator: and they had voiced no objections to the use. He fur th2,• stated that the Borough Attorney stated that there is nothing In the use permit to prevent such use. Mr. PcwaL staled he personally has no objections. Mr. Powell stated that there should be someone responsible for internal control of the area. Mr. Street indicated that there will be floor ladies to take care of this situation among the group. Mr. Hickman stated that there will be two entrances in case of fire hazard. Mr. Anderson noted that only one main entrant= should be used to ease janitorial services. Mr. Hickman suggested that we rent to the Association and deal with one person. Mr. Street stated that the association is presently after housing and if thls request is approved they will seek employees needed. Mr. Powell recommended $50.00 per week, per room. Mr. Anderson suggested that they post the names of those ladies responsible, so they can be reached in case problems arise. Mrs. Wallin moved to allow the Kodiak Seafood Processors Association to utilize the space th re by Mr. A quested in their proposal. Seconded nd Motion passed by unanimous roll call vote. stated that this matter will be referred to the staff and they can determle the amount of women to utilize the room according to space requirements.
