06/12/1969 RMKODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH ASSE 'II3LY MEETING - SPECIAL, JUNE 12th, 1969 I CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called:tc order by =residing Officer Don Bullock at 12:15 p.m. in the Office of the Kodiak Island Borough, Kodiak, Alaska. VFW Request for Additional Land: Jr. Berg had requested this meeting due to the fact that the letter of non-objection from KANA was not forthcoming and he wanted to have the Assembly's approval to continue with the program underway at the VFt? Site without further delay. Mr. Berg stated that he had tried to contact the Preside.%t of KANA, bn a I::- d b . .nlec,c: sful. However, he had received a message sayinc; that the native lands were not for barter and that due to the fact that KANA presently had no lawyer this would have to be delayed until a lawyer was availably:. It was further noted that this is only a lease on the land for a 55 -year period and that this is a community project that would be open to the public. The additional 60- acres is for all practical purposes valueless to anyone else but is needed by the Vital mainly for safety factor. The Assembly approval is needed prior to having the survey work done that the State requires. The Statutes were checked in regards to the period which la;:sd can be leased. Hr. Barr moved that the Borough Assembly rescind the action taken with regard to the VE'CI request insofar as eliminating the requirement of the - ietter of non - ebie- E n from the Native association, seconded - 5y Ar. Naughton. The motion passed by 2 - 1.0 1 roll call vote as follows: Mr. Barr - YES; Mr. Naughton - NO Mr. Eullock - YES. B. There being no further business, Ht.
