RESOLUTION NO. 77 -53 -R
A RESOLUTION DIRECTING THAT LEGAL AND TECHNICAL PROCEDU'IS
BE INSTITUTED FOR CREATION OF A SEWER AND WATER SERVICE AREA IN
THE URBANIZED PORTION OF THE BOROUGH NOT CURRENTLY SERVED.
WHEREAS, residents of the Borough residing in the urbanised
areas have sought sewer and water utility service to meet desirable
and necessary environmental quality standards; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly adopted a Co-
prehensive Regional Development Plan in 1968 of which Volume
indicated the proposed construction, alignment and size of se er
and water service lines necessary to serve the urbanized area, and
WHEREAS, the creation of water service area Number I in 968
was the first logical step in ultimately providing water and •,ewer
service to the Kodiak urbanized area; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly in 1972 adopue
a Regional Sewage Interceptor and Treatment Plant Plan; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly has continuo sly
supported U. S. Environmental Protection Agency funded constr c-
tion grant applications for the nearly completed Kodiak Metro
politan Area Regional Sewage Treatment Plant; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly has just com-
pleted a sewer and water service study containing five alternative
methods for providing sewer and water service to the residents
of the urban area in the Monashka- Island Lake area; and
WHEREAS, the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly finds that th
orderly process of providing sewer and water utility services
the urbanized area of the Borough outlined in the 1968 Kodiak
Regional Comprehensive Development Plan have progressed to a
point where it is desirable to proceed with the establishment
sewer and water service areas within the urbanized area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kodiak Island Borough
Assembly finds it appropriate for the Borough to initiate the
next step in accomplishing the Assembly's long sought goals f
improving the environment and life style of those Borough resiients
RESOLUTION NO. 77 -53 -R, Page one of two
